See-trough Over Guard

I was thinking about a transparent over guard for long but didn't really needed such accessory. Rather than getting rid of a soft shaped plastic I got the idea that its ability to slightly pinch might hold a thin and transparent polycarbonate sheet. So I decided to built the over guard under condition It could be locked and removed tool-free but mostly did not take much room.

Overview

The dimensions allows the see-through over guard to be put away along a side of the nearest cabinet from the combination machine and I reused a cam lock lever of an old bicycle to handle the guard without any tool. The shaped plastic stapled onto a 5 mm thick plywood pinches the thin transparent sheet as you may see in the below drawing.

The primary purpose was to make me more comfortable when cross-cutting and front-side kickback occurred. Although any thrown offcut has never hurt me, nor even reached, such kickback suddenly happens with a loud bang sharply propelling the thin stock backward. I also sometimes lock the guard onto the rip fence so that keeping the safe habit of never allowing my handles to get close from the blade teeth as show in the below pictures.

Set on the cross-cut fence the trasparent over guard aims the same purpose than above. The below picture shows how the guard shields and prevent from bad habits like feeding the stock near the working tool when coving.

The two last photos display the use in conjunction with the ring fence and you may find more in that document about the ring fence modifications.
