Sliding Carriage Handle

A carriage handle could be useful provided it also fits some unusual context. The five millimetres thick rounded rectangle washer may be replaced with plywood and enables firm clamping whatever fixture on the wagon carriage. Locked on top or on the carriage side with a variety of handle shapes that easy to built handle turns into a versatile accessory.

Overview

The knob came from a cheap router and just fitted the threaded hole of a little carriage strip. A plastic pad stuck underneath the rounded rectangle washer allowed the handle to slide along the aluminium carriage groove without scratching.

Here is another way of diverting the main purpose to a sliding table stop that enable for an improved lock mechanism when shaping the end grain of a wide workpiece on the spindle moulder. Such moulding demands the workpiece to be firmly secured and a hold down may sometimes turn out too weak. A nut matching the sliding table then a plastic ring and a washer topped with a bristol lever bring a very simple but useful solution. Handle or lever are workable whatever the purpose.
