Sliding Table

A sliding table right up to the blade improves safety as well as accuracy and may be thought as a ready to use fixture designed to accommodate other jigs and fixtures. As matter of interest you may read about the edging extension that enables the carriage to not stick out the machine and allows cuts up to 2.30m (7.5 ft) or else the wheel pressure module. However the sliding mechanism demands care so that smoothly gliding.

Overview

A pair of ten steel balls roll between two V-grooves guided with two holders that tend to misalign with use, resulting in a reduced travel. Fully pulling the carriage then slightly pushing against its end-stop solves the issue.

Check

I tried several means of keeping the steel tracks dust-free but never reached a satisfying solution. There is hardly nothing to do against the effects of oily or sticky medium density fibred sawdust. Eventually I came up with a simple solution that proved the best. Once or twice a year I take the sliding mechanism in pieces then carefully clear balls and tracks before coating with a silver glide, let dry, thoroughly wipe and finally reassemble. Few time is needed but the sliding table glides as a brand new does.
