Slides Underneath the Drawer

Whenever possible I go for wooden slides rather than metal ones. Of course they are not suitable in a kitchen or wherever drawers need to be often opened or else heavy loaded like file cabinets but they glide so smoothly without noise and give a real feeling of fine furniture.

Overview

Amongst many other styles I would rather make an underneath slide and an over guide and even a piece that encompasses the two functions, related to the gap between two drawer sides of course. This allows for thinner drawer sides and the slide does not require more than some millimetres of available space. Besides drawer width has not to be accurate related to inside cabinet width and the rabbet of each pair of underneath slides can be machined so that accommodating its own drawer.

The above drawing shows the underneath slide accommodating the bottom drawer then an intermediate slide and guide screwed between two drawers and the top guide that goes over the upper drawer.
