Turning the Mortiser Two-jaw Chuck into Pulley

Lurem Origin Chuck and Housing
Since I had connected a variable frequency drive on the combination machine, I often wondered how retrieving the motion and from which function among saw, spindle moulder or planer. The carriage wagon next to the blade didn't allow such modification and the vertical shaft of the spindle moulder was not really convenient. I many times gave up that issue as far as glanced to the two-jaw mortiser chuck that might have been a perfect pulley. I asked a metal turner for grooving the base chuck so that turning into a pulley which may accommodate a lengthwise grooved belt. In fact the real point was to modify the chuck housing without safety drawback.

After due consideration I have reused the origin housing, thoroughly cutting the plastic support. There is just enough room between the chuck and the housing base to glide a grooved belt. The chuck guard stuck to a plywood plate fits the base aperture that a spring pin locks. You may see the transmission of the sanding table in the right hand side, below.

Removing and replacing the chuck guard is tool free. Pulling the knob release the plywood and the guard merely needs to be slightly lifted up. Whatever the bit size, the guard can be replaced the same way and the chuck housing ends up sitting on the plastic base.
