Infeed Roller for Table Saw

I have hardly never sawed heavy and long boards but nevertheless needed an infeed extension on the saw table that may prevent from over-ride kickback. I was looking for an accessory that could extend the table about 25 cm and did not get in the way of the rip fence as well as the start and stop buttons. I also wanted a tool-free accessory easy and quickly dockable on the overarm. Only an adjustable infeed roller could meet those needs.

Overview

After making some templates from plywood left in the shop I came up with the solution that the first arm holding the roller should hang on the solid tube accommodating the rip fence and the second one had to lean against the frame of the combination machine. Each arm should hold its own adjustable mechanism so that getting flush the saw table with the roller. So I drew the forms and cut with a jigsaw at lowest speed in order to prevent the metal blade from aluminium jam then drilled and completed each piece with a fine file and sand paper.

Cutting Aluminium

The beech roller came from rolling pin and two plywood rings were stuck at the ends to get a flawless axis. You may see below the fixture that made the roller true. The power drill slowly rotated the workpiece that the adjustable bevelling cutter head on the spindle moulder machined as I glided the fixture along the fence.

Shaping Roller

Here are the details. The infeed roller rotates around two screw heads and finally leans to the machine frame but also against the slotted screw in the foreground. The wooden spacer looking as a shaped handle allows for the start and stop of the saw without drawback and helps for the hooking of the accessory on the rotating overarm.

Related to need, the roller stand or several arrangements involving the arm stand and the jointer outfeed roller may be quickly attached to the solid tube holding the rip fence.
